Suggested Plant & Lawn Maintenance

Lawns
After the sod has taken root, mow the grass at a height of not less than 2.5”. Then apply fertilizer as recommended.
Lawn Fertilization
February – March
Apply Scotts Bonus S Weed & Feed, or Weed & Feed put out by Lesco (or equivalent). Apply at manufacturer recommended rate. Both are available at Home Depot stores.
June – July
Apply Lesco 16-4-8 (or equivalent) at manufacturer recommended rate.
October – November
Scotts Turf Builder (or equivalent) at manufacturer recommended rate.
Trees & Shrub Fertilizing
February – March
Apply a 12-5-9 mix; there are several manufacturers. Be sure to get a 50% organic mix. Apply at manufacturer recommended rate.
July – August
Apply same as February – March.
October
Same as February – March.

After 1st year, reduce to two fertilizations per year.
Palm Fertilizing
February – March
You will need a fertilizer with additional trace elements, such as manganes, etc. There is a good fertilizer made by Sunnyland called Palm Special (this fertilizer should also be used on Ixora shrubs).
October – November
Apply same as February – March.
Seasonal Annuals
Annual Fertilizing
Apply a 14-14-14 Osmacote, available at Home Depot. Apply at manufacturer recommended rate.
Insect & Fungus
We suggest you purchase a 2-gallon sprayer and speak with your Home Depot garden representative, tell him you want a pesticide and a fungicide that can be mixed together along with a water-soluble fertilizer, like Peters or Miracle Gro. From time to time you will - depending on the weather and other conditions- have to deal with aphids, scale & fungus, etc. If these items are not treated right away it will cause the plants to grow poorly and possibly die.

If you follow the instructions above, your landscaping will grow healthy and will add to the value of your property. Always follow the recommended instructions when using fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides.
Watering
It is important that you monitor your irrigation system for clogged heads, etc. Also be sure to turn your system off when rain provides sufficient water. Excess water can cause numerous problems such as, fungus, root rot, etc.
